"Homework"

In Kindergarten much of our "homework" is though exploration and play.

All "homework" is optional.

My goal is to provide you with resources that will help support you and your child.

Kindergarten "homework" also helps to develop responsibility, routines and sets the foundation for future home practice.

Your child will be provided with three different types of "homework":

Reading, Writing and Math

Reading:

*Read 15-20mins- We hope that you are reading with your child for at least 15 mins each night. Please spend 5-10 mins a night reading out loud to your child, and the other 5-10 mins letting your child “read” to you. Your child has been taught the 4 ways kindergartners can read.

Ways we “read”
Read the words
Retell a story that has been read to them
Tell a story by looking at the pictures
Find known letters/sight words

Reading Homework:

Your child will be assigned books on Raz Kids. Please work with them to read these books and answer the comprehension questions after! You can even sign up to have Raz Kids email you on their progress and how many minutes they are reading each week!

Here is the link to our class Raz Kids account: (The Teacher Username is: VSchmidt and you and your child were given a picture password at the start of the school year)

Writing Homework:

Your child will be bringing home Homework Writing Pages. This will contain a list of words for your child to write. Please read the words out loud to your child and let your child do the sounding out! Do not correct their work. It is important for them to think about and write the sounds they hear! The lists can be downloaded by clicking the "Writing Lists" button

Math Homework:

Your child will be bringing home monthly math activities. Please keep the activity at home so that your child can have multiple practices with the skill.

DON"T FORGET:

Talking with, reading to, and interacting with your child are great "homework" activities too! Have dinner together! Go for a walk! Play a card game! Read a story before bedtime!

Your child learns just by being with you!!!
